Burgers Wars Episode VII: Cows of the Old Republic

I went with Taylor to Big Easy, the place was packed, and we didn’t have reservation, so we were told to wait an hour, as it was our mistake we decided to go for a pint in a pub nearby, and then come back later. The décor of the place is kind of relax, people tend to put their business cards on the wall, nice way to make the costumers involved with the restaurant, probably half of the people come back just to see if their business card is still there. We got Sol beer, which was a disaster, it was completely warm, almost undrinkable. For me that was like a sign of what was coming, how any bartender serves you that? They should have some sort of control, or at least advice the costumer that the beer doesn’t have the correct temperature.

We changed the beer, and the directions to the waitress was "bring the coldest one you have", well guess what, this time it was a little bit colder but not even close. Anyway we were prepared to order the meal, I did some investigation in internet before going and notice a promotion two course menu, Voodo chicken wings, a beef burger with fries and a cold beer (at that point I was sure it was going to be a miracle to have a cold beer there), the offer still says in the website that it runs until April 7th, now what do you think was the answer of the waiter, I have to quote on this, “Sorry, we don’t have it anymore, I asked already to remove it from the website”, are you serious! I don’t know but in my country that’s misleading the customer. Anyway Taylor ordered the deep fried calamari and the extra tender aged beef fajitas, and I ordered the Voodo chicken wings and the prime beef burger with blue cheese and bacon.

We got the appetizers, the chicken wings were good, the sauce really spicy so if you don’t like spicy food don’t get even close to that. I tried one of the calamari and it was ok, better than the one I had in Zizzi a few months back. Then everything went completely wrong, around 15 minutes after finished our first course the waitress came to our table saying they ran out of tortillas so they couldn't serve more fajitas, ok now I have to say, SERIOUSLY!!! Around 30 minutes after we ordered you are going to come and say that you can’t serve what we asked for. That is like your team is winning in the ninth inning, with two outs, and the bases loaded, and the next batter gets hit by the pitch, what a way to throw a winning away. So Taylor changed it for a steak sandwich. Another 10 minutes passed and in my head it was like when Luke tells Yoda that he’s not afraid and he wants to start his training as a Jedi, and the answer was “You will be”, well I already knew what was coming.

Voodo Chicken Wings

All these waiting remind me the Seinfeld episode “The Chinese Restaurant” when Jerry, George, and Elaine are waiting for a table:

Elaine: I feel like just walking over to a table and taking food off of someone's plate.
Jerry: I'll tell you what. There's $50 in it for you if you do it.
George: $50? For $50, I'll put my face in their soup and blow!

We finally got the food, the burger wasn’t cold but it had the texture of being waiting to be served for a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. The bread and bacon was kind of stiff, the blue cheese was running, not a good texture, the meat was cooked medium rare but it was dry, everything was the direct result of bad timing to serve the food.

Blue cheese and bacon burger

The verdict, misleading offers, critical mistakes in service, warm beer, the burger was ok I guess if it had been served immediately after cooked the difference would have been immense, and the fries were plenty but inconsistent, some of them were saggy, others were crunchy.

The damage, 16 pounds for the burger, fries, cole slaw, and a beer.

The conclusion, a real disappointment, I was so looking forward for this place, if you go to their website they have all these really good offers, but then you get there and get informed that it’s not available anymore. Bad service, food just not as good as expected. I don’t think I will be coming back. A disappointing 5 in my scale
