More Awesome Steaks in the Houston Area

A local colleague while in Houston told me if I want to try a superb steak there I had to go to Pappas Bros Steakhouse. This steakhouse is part of the Pappas Restaurants group that has eight different concepts from steakhouse, seafood, Mexican, Greek, BBQ, and even burger joints.

The Place

I went with a couple colleagues to have diner. The menu with dry aged prime beef, but also as you will find in this places good selection of seafood as Australian lobster. Opened in 1995 with a family concept but to try to maintain a fine dining experience. Vast wine list with more than 2300 different selections and holding for two years in a row the Grand Award (2010 and 2011).

Inside

So many tempting options to go for, but at the end I went for a Turtle Gumbo with aged Sherry and a Texas Akaushi Kobe Ribeye. The turtle was excellent, long time without having one, good flavour, good spices, but the Kobe ribeye stole the show, excellent marbling, amazing flavour, extremely soft as cutting the steak was like cutting butter, and on top of that surprise! Surprise! Bone marrow, yes bone marrow, I could eat that steak every night.

Turtle reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Hamptons”

George: How do women know about shrinkage? Elaine! Get! Do women know about shrinkage?
Elaine: What do you mean, like laundry?
George: No.
Jerry: Like when a man goes swimming... afterwards...
Elaine: It shrinks?
Jerry: Like a frightened turtle!
Elaine: Why does it shrink?
George: It just does.
Elaine: I don't know how you guys walk around with those things.
