Burger Wars Episode XLIII: The Corellian Ship

A place I wanted to try as soon as I was back in London was The Ship. I have been before in the gastropub with some of my ex classmates from the master, and we all agreed that the Guinness there was top notch, one of the best in London, quite similar to the one we had in our trip to Dublin. I read two reviews one from my friend EuWen the other from Burger Anarchy, so the pub promised a good burger.

The place
Inside
Got to the place, cut the chase and ordered the chargrilled beef burger with cheese, pickled cucumber, and fries.

Burger time
The verdict, honestly I didn't like it, for me it failed to deliver, the meat was overcooked, I think they might have confused my order as they don’t give you any number or anything to identify your order, anyway I ordered medium rare and got medium well, no juices, the cheese was missing in action, and no special sauce, plain mustard and ketchup. Fries were good at least.

The damage, 14 quid for the burger, fries, and a coke.

The conclusion, the place is a really nice pub, the menu looks pretty good, pork belly, braised pork, poached mussels, but my burger sadly wasn't good at all, if you’re going to try only the burger I think it doesn’t deserve the long walk to get there, but if you want to have a pint with friends in a nice sunny day The Ship is a great place, nice beers, excellent Guinness, and nice atmosphere. I would give them a 6.5 in my scale, plenty of room for improvement.

So many expectations
Ship
The ship reminds me pirates and obviously the Seinfeld episode “The Puffy Shirt”

Kramer: You know that, uh, Leslie is in the clothing business? She's a designer
Elaine: Oh?
Kramer: In fact, she's come up with a new one that is going to be the big new look in men fashions. It's a puffy shirt. Well, yeah… It's all puffy. Like the pirates used to wear
Elaine: Oh, a puffy shirt
Jerry: Puffy
Kramer: Yeah, see, I think people want to look like pirates. You know, it's the right time for it, to be all puffy, and devil may care

This is one of my local pubs and a bloody good one too. I would have to agree with the review but would point out that it's probably not the best time to go. In the summer the BBQ grill serves up an excellent burger. Also not to be a pedant but anyone going for the boat race would be sadly disappointed given that it starts at Putney bridge and goes upstream.

Thanks for the correction you're right is an awesome pub, also right boat race doesn't pass through as it's from Putney bridge to Chiswick bridge.

I was really hoping the burger was going to blow my mind as I love the pub
