Steakhouse Adventures: Colicchio’s Craft [On The Road: NYC]

I went back to NYC for a Van Halen concert in the Madison Square Garden and finally I went to a place I was really looking forward to visiting, Tom Colicchio's restaurant in Manhattan. It’s no secret I'm a big fan of Top Chef so it was a must to visit one of the head judge restaurants. The place can’t be other than Craft. Opened in 2001 and the first of a successful series of restaurants. Stakehouse by heart but a menu that offers plenty of variety going from pasta, salads, fish, and shellfish.

Got with Mary on a rainy night in NYC, so we arrived almost soaked even we had an umbrella. The service was perfect since we arrived, dark dim lights to set the mood in a modern layout, so we went for a Rioja wine.

Rioja Time
The first surprise we got an amuse bouche compliments from the kitchen, Jerusalem artichoke, delicate flavour and excellent start for the night. As a starter I got a pork ravioli with Steen’s cane syrup, great accomplished, pork was tender, nice flavour, sweet sauce in contrast with the saltiness of the dish. As a main one dish took my complete attention 30 day dry aged sirloin and bone marrow. The mains took quite long to get them, which was unusual, but it was worth the wait, the flavour was great, the sirloin perfectly cooked and the bone marrow excellent. As sides a spring garlic risotto and baby shiitake, both sides nice.

Had the chance to taste Mary’s lamb loin and Ligurian olive it was quite nice, the olives gave a nice contrast.

To end the meal we got a brownie and coconut cookie treat, nice way to end an excellent meal.

Craft reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Puerto Rican Day”

George: Damn you, laser guy! You had to grab it all with your lowbrow laser shtick! You're just a prop comic! Where's the craft?
