Indian Fast Food Style

The other day we tried to go to Veraswamy after a couple friends recommended as one of the best Indian food in town. We didn’t make a reservation so no chance to get a table. But then the doorman mentioned to try their sister restaurant Masala Zone, which was within walking distance. 8 Locations around London, a prehistoric cave painting style décor with bone colours, opened since 2001 in Soho, fast pace style, and strong curry aromas since you get in.

Got to the place took the menu, then the first warning signal came, the menu has pictures of all the food! I’ve a bad feeling about this. They offer Thali, a balanced tray with different curries and starters. We decided to order bit and pieces. As starter we went for some hollow pastry that to be honest I don’t remember the name. Thanks god for that because was the worst thing I have ever eaten, it was cold, with a weird taste, and a greenish liquid to add which we weren’t able to figure it out but look like car antifreeze coolant. The other one was the Dahi Puri a bit better, but still not convincing, same pastry but this time filled with a sweet yoghurt cream, not their finest creation.

Dare you eat this!
For main we stayed on the safe side. A lamb curry, a bit mild, but still good flavour nice spices. Finally a mixed grill with mutton chops, chicken tikka, and shrimps bahji. The chops were nice, the chicken and shrimps ok, well executed.

Overall an OK meal but not the best one you can imagine, I consider there are better independent curry houses around town.

Mutton reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Wink”

Holly: Jerry, I'm thrilled you like my mutton. I was afraid you only ate salad
Jerry: Hey, salad's got nothing on this mutton
Holly: That is so funny. Did you just make that up?
Jerry: I wish I could take credit for it. It's actually the line my butcher uses when we're chewing the fat
