Burger Wars Episode XVIII: Tatooine Diner

After more than a month out of London, I had to resume my search, there are still a hand full of places I want to visit. This time it was the turn for The Diner. The place is exactly as its name. An American diner in London with 5 different locations, I felt like I was part of the movie American Graffiti. Hard shakes, cocktails, sodas, and of course burgers.

The Bar

The Menu

There are 9 different burgers, including a fish burger, and 13 extra toppings to add and create any combination. But if you’re not into burger mode, corn dogs, sandwiches, and even philly cheese steak. My choice for the night was the double decker (2 patties) and I added jack cheese and bacon. As a side some Diner Fries (Cajun seasoned).

Double Decker with Jack Cheese and Bacon

The patties are made of Drumlin Gold beef with uses only award winning cattle graded U, R & O with fat score between 2 and 4L. Not bad for a chain isn’t.

Diner Fries

The verdict, the routemaster burger was good, nice smoky flavour, toasted bun, the melted cheese and the bacon added a nice touch, and of course the traditional lettuce, tomato, and a pickle, it couldn’t have been more exact as an American burger. The only complain was the meat was well done, I honestly prefer medium rare. The fries were a little bit saggy. And the Cajun gave it a spicy flavour.

The damage, 17 pounds for the burger, fries and a beer.

The conclusion, it could have been better, in my opinion rookie mistakes with the fries and the well done cooked. I will give them a 6 for the effort.

The Diner reminds me Monk’s restaurant, and the first thing that comes into my mind is the episode “The Pitch”.

George: Why don't they have salsa on the table?
Jerry: What do you need salsa for?
George: Salsa is now the number one condiment in America.
Jerry: You know why? Because people like to say "salsa" excuse me, do you have salsa?" "We need more salsa" "Where is the salsa? No salsa?"
George: You know it must be impossible for a Spanish person to order seltzer and not get salsa. "I wanted seltzer, not salsa."
Jerry: "Don't you know the difference between seltzer and salsa? You have the seltezer after the salsa!"
