I was flying to visit my family for Christmas and had to do transit in Madrid
This time I decided to mix a little bit of sightseeing with my pleasure for eating and drinking. So my fist day I went to El Parque del Buen Retiro, this huge park in the heart of Madrid considered the city's lungs, date its origin in the 1630s, with 1.18 square kilometres full of fountains, statues, lakes, and a couple palaces. I went to Velazquez Palace and the Crystal Palace , two amazing completely different structures that hold art exhibitions for the Reina Sofia Museum all over the year. The first one built in 1883 was inspired in the London Crystal Palace, the second one is an amazing crystal and steel structure constructed in 1887 is just breathaking, at first sight it looks like a crystal cathedral thanks to its huge dome.
During my first visit to Madrid I went to El Prado museum so this time I tried the Reina Sofia Museum , another of the three museums comprising the golden triangle of art in Madrid Guernica
Some of the masterpieces include Dali’s portraits of his sister such as Figure at a Window, also The Great Masturbator, and Picasso’s Woman in Blue. The current exhibitions included Atlas, How to carry the world on one’s back?, and Miroslaw Balka CTRL.
All this art in the museum reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Letter” where Jerry’s new girlfriend Nina is painting a portrait of Kramer.
Jerry: I have to go meet Nina. Want to come up to her lot, check out her paintings?
George: I don’t get art.
Jerry: There’s nothing to get.
George: Well, it always has to be explained to me, and then I have to have someone explain the explanation.
Jerry: She does a lot of abstract stuff. In fact she's painting Kramer right now.
George: What for?
Jerry: She sees something in him.
George: So do I, but I wouldn't hang it on a wall.
