I went back to London to see that all is good in my flat and during my short stay I decided to go visit Hache. Many people believe is the best burger in London , even Gordon Ramsay in his program the F Word nominated as the best local restaurant. The place is a family business opened in 2004, with two restaurants, one in Camden , and the other one in Chelsea . Their goal is to produce the best and most innovative burger.
I saw the menu and one of their specials caught my eye, I still don’t get why restaurants call them chef specials? They forgot to put them in the menu, it doesn’t sound special to me at all. Anyway, I went for the Milano Burger, which is basically buffalo mozzarella, parmesan shavings, and sun-dried tomato pesto. As a side frittes, halloumi grilled cheese sleeves, and a beer.
The verdict, good flavour, the meat was cooked medium rare as asked, but in my opinion the sun-dried tomato pesto was a little overwelming, the fries were excellent.
The damage, 15 quids for the burger, fries and the beer
The conclusion, Good burger, good flavour, and really good selection, they have at least 16 beef burgers, 6 chicken burgers, 2 lamb burgers, vegetarian burgers, fish burgers, and even a duck burger. In my scale I will give them a 9, solid burger, good fries, excellent selection and plenty of options.
These specials remind me the Seinfeld episode “The Cafe”.
Babu: Welcome to the Dream Cafe.
Jerry: Well, I've been looking forward to it.
Babu: Oh, how did you hear about us?
Jerry: Eh, people, people are talking.
Babu: Smoking or non smoking? We are proud to offer both.
Jerry: Non smoking would be great.
Babu: Very good. My name is Babu Bhatt, I will be your waiter. A steaming hot face cloth for your pleasure.
Jerry: Thank you.
Babu: Our specials are tacos, moussaka and franks and beans.
Jerry: Well, what do you recommend my good fellow?
Babu: Oh, the turkey.
Jerry: Oh, the turkey it'll be. And may I say you have a splendid establishment here, my friend. I'm sure you flourish in this location for many many years.
Babu: You're a very kind man. Very kind, thank you. Very kind.

Yes, but, would you rate it as one of the best burgers on London?
Yes is one of the best, probably second best, still my favourite after 21 places is Hawksmoor... One advantage of Hache is their variety, but still I have to check other places...
I went to Hache in Chelsea last night with three friends after reading about the restaurant in the press. I booked in advance and confirmed the day before only to arrive on the night and discover that my name wasn’t even in the reservation book. We all ordered burgers and after finishing our meals, unanimously concluded that there is only one word to describe the food and that is mediocre, mediocre and again mediocre. We were astounded at how small and thin the actual meat burger was, probably equivilant to the golden arches. Even worse thougth, was the complete lack of seasoning and flavour in the meat itself. We all ordered thin cut fries which again were tasteless and without flavour.
All in all a rather dissapointing experience and certainly not the best burger in London by a long shot. If it’s the ultimate burger in town that you are looking for, then Bar Boulud at the Manadarin Hotel in Knightsbridge is the place to go.
Marco, I've not been in Hache since more than a year, in the two occasions I went the burger was good. I wont give excuses for them as I have nothing to gain here, but they might have had a bad day, that happens. for example, I loved Meatwagon the first day I went, then came back other times and wasn't as good as I thought it was the first time.
I really appreciate your feedback and taking the time to write the comment, as you should know here every week there is a new burger joint, a pop up place, etc so it's difficult to come back to check for consistency and quality.
I completely agree with you BB is one of the best so far in town actually for me the top 3 are Hawksmoor, Goodman, and BB, also Admiral Codrington is really close to them, and probably Chef Fred Smith is the one playing more and giving more innovation and creative burgers in town.
I did a post of my top 10 you can look here: http://theblogaboutnothinginlondon.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/my-top-ten-london-burger-guide.html I tried to revisit the places but is quite difficult so basically the top 4 I visit them often then the rest of the list is not so regular to keep track of changes in consistency.
Glad you wrote, please keep challenge any issues you observe as it's good tips for future readers.
