Burger Wars Episode XXVII: The Soho Padawan

I have been trying to resume my search of the best burger in London, there are still a couple places I want to try one of them was Balans. The place is in Soho, according to them the perfect place to eat and drink any time. I decided to go as my beautiful friend Ana asked me out for diner, so we decided to go somewhere in Soho and after failing to convince her to go to Bob Bob Ricard we decided to go to Balans.

Balans

I got the menu and only one option a cheddar cheese and streaky bacon burger, I ordered medium rare as usual and wait for my dish to come. The burger comes with hand cut chips and a small salad.

The verdict, burger was ok, prepared as ordered, I’m not sure but for me it had a fast food chain kind of flavour, you know some sort of familiar flavour, I’m not saying you can compare this burger with the Big Mac, the Balans one is definitely more refined but kept me thinking, it might have been the sauce. The chips were a little undercooked, but the salad was quite good and not so common to have one with a burger.

Balans' Burger

The damage, 11.5 quids for the burger, and chips, you can add a beer for a total of 15 quids.

The conclusion, burger is fine, but not great, probably the fact that I’ve been recently visiting places that most bloggers agree are the best burgers in town put the bar quite high for Balans. In order to be fair I will give them a 7 in my scale, burger was good, flavour was nice, chips undercooked probably the main issue for me.

Soho is a place so diverse that reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Outing” where a reporter gets the impression Jerry is gay, “not that there is anything wrong with that”.

Jerry: There has been a big misunderstanding here! We did that whole thing for your benefit. We knew you were eavesdropping. That's why my friend said all that. It was on purpose! We're not gay! Not that there's anything wrong with that...
George: No, of course not...
Jerry: I mean that's fine if that's who you are...
George: Absolutely...
Jerry: I mean I have many gay friends...
George: My father is gay...
Sharon: Look, I know what I heard.
Jerry: It was a joke...
George: Look, you want to have sex right now? Do want to have sex with me right now? Let's go! Come on, let's go baby! Come on!

Pity it wasn't very good-but Balans I've only been for a drink because the service was so poor. Oh dear that bun looks pitiful!
Again, great review!
