Una Barra muy Fina en London

Since I’m back in London I have been finally going to places I wanted to try for a long time. Another one in that list was Barrafina. Spanish tapas bar with no tables just a long L shape bar, friendly Spaniard staff, and fresh ingredients.

The barra
We arrived at the place, joined the 30 min queue, and ordered a Cava while waiting for our bar stools. Opened the night with some pimientos de Padron, nice good flavour. Pan con tomate, Catalan style, not as good as I have had in Barcelona. Ham croquetas, great flavour, the potato croqueta with the twist of the jamon, really nice.

Moving on, chorizo with potato chip, really clever, great execution, the spicy chorizo wrapped around a crispy potato chip, amazing.

Then we got Percebes (goose bernacles), the dangerous and hard to harvest Galician delicacy. Nice flavour, a delicate dish. Iberian pork loin, great accomplished dish, nice balance, the combination of the salty and punchy mushrooms, the delicate a nice mash, and finally the great Iberico loin. Best dish of the night, standing ovations!

Morcilla Iberica with quail eggs, the sweet pepper and the salty morcilla with the runny egg, quite nice. Jamon and spinach tortilla, good twist of the classic, a bit salty and runny in the centre. Chips and brava sauce, nice garlic touch. Finally Tiger prawns, great seasoning, classic execution.

I usually avoid Spanish places in London but Barrafina is an excellent tapas place with great food in the centre of Soho.

Spain reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Kiss Hello”

George: Say it's Saturday night in Spain. They go out dancing. You think they do the flamenco?
Jerry: I would think
George: So you could call a woman for a date, ask her if she's free for Dinner and a flamenco?
Jerry: You don't flamenco on the first date
George: Boy, I wish the flamenco was popular here
Jerry: Yeah? Would you do it?
George: Yes, I think I would
Jerry: Well, I knew you'd have an affinity for it, because it's the dance of a very proud people
