Frontera at the Airport [On The Road: Chicago]

I’ve always struggle to get good food in the airports. Including the first class lounges, it’s all mass production, no quality approach, it’s like because it’s free people won’t mind. But not all is bad news, I’ve seen some chefs realising this niche and opening decent offerings in the terminals such as Gordon Ramsay, Wolfgang Puck, and in Chicago Top Chef Master Rick Bayless

Rick takes O'Hare
The place Tortas Fronteras at Chicago O’Hare international airport. Simple comfort Mexican cuisine for the passing by and stranded passengers. The offer some tortas that is basically a grilled sandwich similar to a Panini with Latin and Mexican infused flavours. You can also find Molletes (open face sandwiches), a nice selection of guacamole and tortillas, and some Mexican beers and Margaritas… Salud Rick!

I went big, as I haven’t been in Chicago for a while, basically more than a year, I got a Choriqueso torta and fully dressed guacamole. To drink I couldn’t resist to have a Marisol beer.

The torta is quite nice, grilled sandwich, with chorizo, melted Chihuhua cheese, poblano, and avocado. Nice balance, simple but tasty sandwich. The Guacamole was superb, roasted tomatillo, the toppings were nice but the guacamole was the star, dense, thick, full of flavour.

Guacamole
Nice option in O’Hare much better than any other including the lounges. So even if you are or aren’t going to Mexico these days, that’s the tasty way in O’Hare.
