Berlin didn’t stop surprising me during the trip. One place
was Weinerei, a wine house that don’t have waiters, bartenders, or anything similar, there
is no bill or check, they have food, at least 12 different types of wine, you
get there give them two euros to get a glass, and then basically help yourself.
At the end you decide how much do you think you need to pay and put it in a big
jar they have in the counter. It’s all based on a trust system yes an honour
code, not Barney’s bro code.
The Place
Sounds like a fairy tale I know, it exists and it is in
Berlin, the place was full, and every minute I sat there with my wine glass,
people came and left, ate and drank, and at the end paid, small or big
contribution who knows, does it work? I guess for the patrons don’t know for
the owners. I tell you what, I know at least a couple cities where that place
will be belly up in one day, but not in Berlin.
One of many Wines
The place is a gem, true Berliners, a few tourists, young
and trendy clientele, with a soft drum and bass lounge music and dim lights.
Wine reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Dinner Party”.
George: All right we got the wine. Aren't we lucky? We got
wine. Imagine if we didn't bring wine. We'd be shunned by society. Outcasts!
