A colleague recommended an Italian restaurant in Hull downtown. Paolo’s is more like a pub than a restaurant, they specialised in Italian cuisine, fish and shellfish. Curious fact is that they had the oldest bartender in the UK “Annie”, she retired at the age of 83, apparently her son still goes to the place to have a shot of whisky in Annie’s honour.

We ordered different dishes to share and try a good selection of seafood, we got breaded calamari, scallops, salmon, and fried brie. The dishes were good, best one the Scottish salmon, sadly none in the group tried any Italian dish so no idea how good the Italian cuisine is in the place. Simple pub food, good service, pretty straight forward.

Salmon reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Implant” when Jerry is obsessed to know if the girl he’s dating has implants.
Kramer: Come on Jerry!
Jerry: Oh, how can you be so sure?
Kramer: Jerry, are you blind? He's a writer. He said his name was Sal Bass. Bass, Jerry! Instead of salmon, he went with bass! He just substituted one fish for another!
Jerry: Look, you idiot, first of all, it's Salman, not salmon!Kramer: Jerry, Jerry, you're missing the big picture!
Jerry: Alright, maybe it is, but listen, I got to get ready Sidra's coming over in a few minutes, so if you don't mind...
Kramer: What, did you ask her? Jerry: I'm going to find out tonight.
