A place I was looking forward to go in Manhattan was Momofuku Noodle Bar, the first restaurant of the family our should I say David Chang’s empire. Trained as a chef with Jean Georges Vongeritchen, Tom Colicchio, and Daniel Boulud, awards from Food and Wine magazine, bon appétit, and James Beard foundation. One of his restaurants have Michelin stars (Ko two stars), two recognise as Bib Gourmand (Noodle Bar and Ssam Bar) and one is in the top 50’s world best restaurant list (Ssam Bar) according to Restaurant magazine. Is all that enough reason to go?
Long and winding queue |
Some of the waiting ones |
The place was completely full, talked with the host and she told me that had to wait around 10 minutes, so not too bad. Got a sit on the bar, asked for a Coney Island pilsner, and studied the menu. So many things to order, the noodles were a must but I want it something else, I was between two choices, the pork bun, actually the pork buns were originated right there, and my second option was a special the smoked chicken wings, I went for the later.

Got my Momofuku Ramen, pork belly, pork shoulder, and a poached egg, it was excellent, nice balance, good flavour from the pork belly and shoulder, loved the salty taste of the broth. Chicken wings were nice, good Asian flavours, the hoi sauce quite nice, good smoky taste and smell.

Loved the place, good Asian flavours, now dying to try his other restaurants.

Noodle reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Virgin”
George: What do you want?
Kramer: I don't care, whatever
George: I'll tell you what. Why don't we just get a couple of dishes and we'll just share them
Kramer: Okay. What are you getting?
George: I'm going to get a Chow Fung
Kramer: What's a Chow Fung?
George: It's a broad noodle
Kramer: What do you mean, a broad noodle?
George: It's a big flat noodle
Kramer: Well I don't want a big flat noodle
George: What kind of noodle do you want?
Kramer: Who says I want a noodle?
George: All right, look. I'm getting the Chow Fung. You don't have to have any
Kramer: All right. I'll get pea pods and you can't have any of my pea pods
George: Fine
