Canary Brunch

Hey! So what's the deal with brunch? I mean that if it's a combination of breakfast and lunch, how comes there's no lupper or no linner

The other day I got an invitation to try the brunch menu of One Canada Square. A lovely event ran by the ETM group where a nice group of food bloggers had the chance to tweet up their experience. The place is a refined, spacious, and traditional European restaurant and cocktail bar. The David Collins Studio designed the place, and the kitchen is in charge of chef Jamie Dobbin. 

Soft Shelf Crab

We got a nice selection of dishes and also cocktails, the highlight was definitely the soft shelf crab Benedict jalapeño, and on the cocktails side the Canary Mary, a great twist to the Bloody classic. Nice food, lovely space, and great cocktails.

Coffee Enquiry XXVI: Colbert French Coffee & Brunch

Elaine, I once told a woman that I coined the phrase, "Pardon my French"

George Costanza (Seinfeld episode “The Soul Mate”)

Nice Paris bistro open seven days a week from breakfast until late. Colbert is a busy restaurant, with a marble bar, classic stools, decor full of old pictures and memorabilia, with a traditional Parisian all day café menu. 

The place

The place was completely packed on a Sunday noon, we got the all day breakfast, including Royale and Benedict eggs, and ham and gruyere croissant.

The eggs were superb, perfect execution, runny yolks, and nice flavours. Croissant was nice and simple. Melted Gruyere was lovely.

I got a Cappuccino, really nice coffee, a bit mild, but the cream was excellent, top marks for the latte art.

Nice coffee, good food, lovely location, and excellent service. Just remember to be careful with the intrusive photography.

Breakfast in Sydney [On The Road: Sydney]

If there is something I learnt in Australia is that they love breakfast and brunch, almost as much as coffee I think, so having a good breakfast with an excellent barista coffee is the typical plan for lazy weekends. One place I had the chance to visit was Heeley St Espresso. Place is not far from Gian house, the menu is basically breakfast, sandwich, and salads, a look rusty and hippie complete the picture.

Got to the place, all tables al fresco, nice sunny morning, I got my coffee and as I was expecting got my latte art stylish coffee, ordered an orange juice with carrots and finally a Benny, eggs Benedict of course. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the hollandaise was pretty nice, the coffee was good, and the presentation spot on, in conclusion a pretty good breakfast.

Jerry: Kramer, Kramer, wait a minute, what the hell is that? 

Kramer: Well, it's chicken feed 

Jerry: I sense something is afoot 

Kramer: Yeah, I bought a chicken 

George: Allow me. Why? 

Kramer: Cage-free, farm-fresh eggs 

Jerry: Allow me. What are you, an idiot? 

Kramer: No
