    About Time for a Chinese

Japanese Tapas in Southwark

Three friends three locations. I’m talking about Tsuru, a some sort of Japanese tapas and sushi restaurant with three branches in London. Using sustainable products and with a philosophy of being affordable while authentic. The menu having Ippin Ryouri (small dishes), sushi, sashimi, and katsu curry for your taste.

The Place

I’ve wanted to go and try the Katsu Sando for a while. Crispy katsu in soft white bread with shredded cabbage, tonkatsu sauce, and mustard mayo. So got to the place, as soon as I sat got some Wasabi Peas and asked for an Asahi beer to cool down the spicy taste. Studied the menu for a while and ordered Takoyaki (Japanese deep fried octopus balls), a chicken katsu sando, and some chilli rice.

Wasabi Snack

The katsu sando was nice, I guess they could get more creative with the bread as it is plain white bread, but the balance is quite good and tasty the breaded/battered chicken was crispy and perfect, the chilli rice was good, and the Takoyaki was exceptional, it basically stole the show. I will be coming back for more octopus and to try other of their Ippin Ryouri.

Chicken Katsu Sando

Japan reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Checks”.

Jerry: Hey. How was the Rainbow Room?
Kramer: Uh, well, we, uh, we had to leave early. There was a, uh, slight monetary discrepancy regarding the bill.
Jerry: Ah.
Kramer: Uh, listen, uh, can I borrow some pillows?
Jerry: What for?
Kramer: Yeah, well, uh, my Japanese friends are going to stay with me.
Jerry: I thought they all had suites at the Plaza?
Kramer: Well, I'm sorry, Jerry, we all don't have checks rolling in like you do.
Jerry: Well, what about all that money from the kimonos I wear?
Kramer: Well, they ran out of it. Manhattan can be quite pricey. Even with fifty thousand yen.
Elaine: Fifty thousand yen? Isn't that only a few hundred dollars?
Kramer: Evidently. Oh, by the way, tell Brett that his chest of drawers are a big hit. My guests are very comfortable in them.
Elaine: In them?
Jerry: You have them sleeping in drawers?
Kramer: Jerry, have you ever seen the business hotels in Tokyo? They sleep in tiny stacked cubicles all the time. They feel right at home.
Jerry: This has international incident written all over it.
Kramer: Oh yeah, yeah.
