Lobzilla back in London

Well, I found this rope and I kept tugging on it, and all these lobsters came up
Cosmo Kramer (Seinfeld episode “The Hamptons”)

I got an invitation for the premiere of Lobsterfest ’13 at Belgo Centraal. The Belgian restaurant that has given London since 1992 moules and double cooked fries, now from July 4 to August 31 they will be in a Lobster state of mind. Three dishes in their special menu, a lobster cocktail, if the cocktail is not enough you can have the whole lobster salad, and finally Lobzilla, a full grilled lobster with fries, aioli dip and salad.

The staff is really friendly, their Master of Beer recommended beers to pair with the lobster, told us about the beers and the different glasses. I had the chance to browse the Beer Bible, with more than 50 Belgian beers covered in detail. I started with a familiar beer the Pauwell Kwak. Yes the beer with the funny name and glass, nice and smooth fruity taste. While enjoying my Kwak we got a wonderful demonstration by development chef Muir Picken teaching how to despatch lobsters, definitely a laborious process. Chef Muir finished the demo teaching us how to prepare the lobster cocktail.

The first dish was the cocktail, really nice, refreshing, light dressing, the crunchiness of the chicory was really nice. The beer to pair was Blanche de Bruxelles, cloudy white beer due to the large percentage of wheat, they add coriander and bitter orange peel during fermentation.

Then we got the star of the night, a whole grilled lobster, great seasoning with butter and garlic, you won't want stop eating it, the fries were nice, excellent to dip on to the aioli. With the lobster I got St Feuillein, a light ale with citrus notes, and somehow nice bitter taste.

For desert we got waffles with a dark chocolate sauce. Really nice combination the dark chocolate paired perfectly with a Westmalle Dubbel, a dark complex beer with nut flavours.

Lobsterfest it's a tradition since 1998 that I highly recommended. Need to come back for more Lobster, the great beers, and some mussels next time. Just remember that for every lobster dish you had, Belgo will donate £1 to National lobster hatchery to support their buy one set one free initiative.
