Coffee Enquiry XL: Timberyard

Don't worry, your bitterness is safe with me
Elaine Benes (Seinfeld episode “The Fix Up”)

Timberyard is a retro, vintage, 80s style café with two locations. We visited the one just a few steps away from Covent Garden or Leicester Square. Chemex, filter brews, and tea for drinks. Food wise the options are some traditional breakfasts, bake croissants, donuts, cakes, or soup, quiche, and grilled sandwiches for lunch and supper.

The place
We got as usual a macchiato and flat white. Ok coffee, a bit bitter, no latte art in ours but saw others with a lovely hearts and rosettes, probably bad luck, or the barista got lazier for our order.

Coffee time
Espresso Machine: La Marzocco
Beans: Has Beans
Score: 3/5

The Jabberwocky blend they use is quite particular, if they don’t get it right you will get sour and bitter flavours. I think that’s what happened with the macchiato as the flat was nice and with good balance.

A Coffee in Edinburgh I: Brew Lab [On The Road: Edinburgh]

I wonder what actually happened in that lab
Elaine Benes (Seinfeld episode “The Non-Fat Yoghurt”)

I went for a coffee excursion in Edinburgh. Looking for a perfect cup in a rapidly multiplying options of independent coffee houses. I had a bit of help (lot of actually) to choose the right places thanks to local blogger Edinburgh Coffee Lovers. My first stop was Brew Lab, convenience located nearby my hotel, just by the university. A rustic meet industrial kind of place, alternative decor and full of character, probably by the beautiful Slayer coffee machine.

The place
We got a macchiato and a flat white, strong with some bitter notes, nice balance, really good coffee, latte art almost there.

Beans: Has bean
Score: 4/5

Coffee Enquiry XIII: CoffeeWorks Project

After spending most of the afternoon in Feast, Armando suggested to go for a coffee in CoffeeWorks Project. Simple décor, white bright walls, some cracks to give an irreverent look, a long L shape wooden counter, full with treats, salads and sandwiches, and behind the Slayer machine, according to the staff the only one in the UK.

The place
Table
I went for my classic macchiato, it was a bit mild and watery for me, as I prefer it the coffee stronger. Some latte art. Service was great and friendly, the place was completely packed. probably one of the few decent options for a coffee in Angel.

Beans: Has Bean
Score: 3/5

Close up
Angel reminds me the Seinfeld episode “The Gymnast”

George: No, Lindsay, it was not in the garbage. It was above the garbage. Hovering, like an angel. Of course I know your aunt bit it. I kissed her goodbye. Listen, can I tell you something else? In my family, we used to eat out of the garbage all the time. It was no big thing, that's right. Oh, okay, bye
