    About Time for a Chinese

A Chinese Palace in NYC [On The Road: New York]

Marisol got a recommendation about a Chinese Restaurant in Midtown, so we decided to give it a go. The place, Shun Lee Palace, an upscale Chinese restaurant, décor according to their offer, opened in 1971 serving traditional Chinese cuisine from a couple regions.

The place
Inside
We started with a Szechuan Wonton, excellent opening, the steamed wonton perfectly executed with the spicy Szechuan sauce was great, nice traditional flavours. Then we moved to the crispy shredded Beijing duckling, again was a spotless execution, perfect presentation, perfectly cooked, one of the best aromatic crispy ducks I have had, crispy and yet tender, homemade pancakes, the waiter actually filled the pancakes for us so the only thing we had to do was eat them, I loved the cucumber and the spring onion brushes in combination with the hoisin sauce. Finally a Singapore style rice noodles with curry, one of my favourite all time dishes, pretty nice, traditional, well executed, I bit mild for me, wouldn’t care a bit more of heat.

Excellent service, great food, and a relaxing atmosphere.

Chinese restaurants remind me the Seinfeld episode “The Chinese Restaurant”

Jerry: Hey, I got news for you, if we're making this movie, we got to get a table immediately
Elaine: All right, OK. Let's stop fooling around. Let's just slip him some money
Jerry: In a Chinese restaurant? Do they take money?
Elaine: Do they take money? Everyone takes money. I used to go out with a guy who did it all the time, you just slip him 20 bucks
George: 20 bucks? Isn't that excessive?
Elaine: Well what do you want to give him, change?
George: It's more than the meal!
Jerry: Oh, come on, we'll divide it up three ways
George: All right, 7, 7, 6. I'm not going to eat that much!
Jerry: I'm counting your shrimps
